Magnus Öström biography
Magnus ÖSTRÖM grew up in Skultuna Sweden, listening to bands and musicians such as Jimi HENDRIX, Deep PURPLE, THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND and LYNYRD SKYNYRD. When he was eight years old, he built his first drum kit out of empty paint cans, and soon started his first band. Graduating up to a real drum kit, he performed in his first concert with his band BEWARE OF THE BEGINNERS.

In 1978 his brother took him to a concert where he saw Billy COBHAM and John MCLAUGHLIN, and his love of jazz-rock began. Playing in a number of bands, often with his childhood friend Esbjörn SVENSSON, ÖSTRÖM learned to play many different styles of popular music.

In 1985 ÖSTRÖM began his studies at Stockholm's Royal Conservatory of Music. At this point he was launched into the jazz world. Since then he has led his own band, as well has performing with many jazz and fusion luminaries, such as Bobo STENSON, Roy HARGROVE and Pat METHENY, to name only a few.
