Ollocs biography
The band is from New York and was formed by the first three members Andrew BIELER (drums, piano), Russell FROHBERG (bass) and Zach VANDERBERG (guitar). They started by playing in a high school jazz band and made their first EP in 2011. Joshua TRAVIS (guitar) joined the band shortly after. Their fist album ''Life Thread'' was released in 2013 and the music is in the heavy instrumental progressive genre with influences from hard rock and progressive metal. The band display some nice musicianship and songwriting skills to keep their music interesting despite the lack of vocals. Some jazz interludes and breaks give even more depth to their songs were we can found influences from bands like OPETH and RUSH.

Ollocs Heavy Prog

4 stars Ollocs is a young excellent heavy prog band from New York - USA who released in 2013 their first offer named Life thred. All album is instrumental , 13 pieces clocking little more then 1 hour. The band dispaly some fantastic musicianship on every tune and aswell the songwritting is pretty solid, is no need for vocals here because for the entire hour the listner is conected to the music. Heavy prog is all about here, quite diverse arrangements, nice interludes between musicns, specially the drumer and guitarist are awesome at best. Nice twists, breaks and turns here, remind me of Rush in their most glorious perioud. Besides up tempo tunes, are some more releaxed passages with nice piano just perfect after some more heavier sections. Pieces like Horizon, Asteria or Til Dawn are excellent showing right from the start that this band needs attention. No weak pieces only highlights for me. Very intresting is aswell the art work. So, all in all a very solid album in this field, similar with bands as Solar Architect, Rush, Carpe Nota. 4 stars for sure.

Thanks to aapatsos for the artist addition.
