Fresh! biography
Hailed from Tokyo, FRESH!, founded as a Japanese rock quintet in 2004 by the two frontmen Takahiko AKIYAMA (drums, percussion) and Kazuhiro NAKAMATA (bass). They've recruited other three musicians of genius Shin'ichi ITO (guitars), Tomonobu FUJII (guitars), and Hiroshi NAKAMURA (saxophones) and given plenty of gigs around Tokyo, Fukuoka, or EU area so far. Their music / play style is mentioned unclassifiable, just like a mixture of jazz, rock, funk, or post-punk. And their sound essence has been crystallized finally in 2012 as their debut creation titled "What Are You Doing In This Confusion?!" via a Japanese independent label Natural Hi-Tech Records.

— First review of this album —
3 stars Speed avantgarde rock fusioned with jazz, funk, post-punk ... suppose this expression could be a tad suitable for their "disciplined" play style.

FRESH!'s debut album "What Are You Doing In This Confusion?!" can be called as a brilliant crystal summarized with their activity via plenty of stages for a decade. Their extensive, and excessive decade could be understood via every track title in this album ... I suggest they've said goodbye for gentleness, played in a mixed manner upon such a confusion, and shouted "wtf" looking up at the blue sky ... and yes, currently they play "confused" rock definitely.

Interesting is their sound operation. Sounds as if they would be slipped away with great impetus, that they create upon stage (or in a studio). Entirely based upon para-dimensional rhythms or vibes, unique and persistent musical convolutions or repetitions are launched via their combination of four instruments. Very speedy, complicated, sharp-pointed, and nervous phrases can be heard here and there, sometimes with psychedelically cracked guitar erosion featured e.g. in the last track "Kita No Chonanbo". At the same time, sounds not improvised nor solidly accomplished really.

Anyway, although it's said they play under a concept of a hybrid subgenre, it's quite a tough call for them to create a music novelty with plenty of genres mutually blended. They cannot formulate another originality even if they exert all power or technique upon a product because all over the world are flooded with a bunch of music.

As a result, not sure if their creation be equipped with methodologies or strategies, but who cares? Their finished product should be felt superb, that's all.

Thanks to DamoXt7942 for the artist addition.
