They seem to have much less opposition than bands such as the Who for addition, so why not? One of the reasons that made the band disband is that Heron was pushing the band towards a prog orientation while Robinson wanted more folk, so they have many prog songs.

I would say Proto-Prog, but Prog Folk is fine too.

By 1971, the ISB were doing lots of rock tracks on their albums like as "Liquid Acrobat as Regards the Air", which has a rhythm section and contains a long, multi-section story song.

Great! Big%20smile I agree that "proto prog" which you suggested would be a good home for them. They did some nice proggy folk tunes past 1969 too, but if one should measure which eare would be more important for prog folk, the pre-1969 would get my vote too.

Oh ISB rocks too, and just like with Tangerine Dream (or Fairport, Steeleye..), on all their worst tracks. But I'm all for, of course. More than ever!

Indeed. I wouldn't personally have voted for Fairport being here, but they are and it's not worth getting into a lather about- I can certainly live with it. I'd say ISB had more links to the prog/acid folk genre that emerged than Fairport, however. I would think that since the Progressive Folk genre is still "new" to this site, that ISB would get serious consideration - as would Love and a number of other progressive folk bands that wouldn't carry the Prog Rock tag.

Much Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk (for example) is also lacking in Rock, but that doesn't prevent either from being here.

Well, the group will come under scrutiny by Tony and Myself in the coming months.
 
While ISB is/was progressive at the time, they are more representative of Acid Folk and present very few rock affinities.
 
They (Clive Palmer and Robin Williamson) were part of this great Scottish folkie invasion that included Donovan and the Pentangle twin barrel Jansch and Renbourn with Jacqui McShee.

Why aren't The Incredible String Band in the archives?
