I still believe so, but I've found out how to state it more clearly as an opinion. I did get a lot of feedback, though , that led me to some interesting french bands. <br>The other newbie nostalgia is coming on like a storm of seeming logic, only to find out that you're thought of as a tempest in the tea pot. I was much more easily-amused musically.&nbsp; Pretty much every prog discovery at the time absolutely amazed me and I always though "Wow, this is so awesome and different!" for bands even now I don't think much of (Rush, ELP, Kansas).<br><br>2. I thought most prog bands were incredibly obscure.&nbsp; Gentle Giant and Van der Graaf Generator were considered two VERY obscure bands by myself when I was new.&nbsp; Now they might be obscure for high school students, but not at all for most serious fans of music.<br><br>3. I used to be able to listen to the same albums more at a time.&nbsp; I would never get sick of them.&nbsp; Now, while I don't get sick of albums I really like, most 3 star or under albums don't get too many plays in my rotation.&nbsp; I buy a lot more (and download rare stuff), so I have more selection to listen to.<br><br>That's pretty much it.&nbsp; I miss being new on my prog journey in some respects, since thinking about it is pretty nostalgic, but I do like being knowledgeable and having a more diverse taste (prog and non-prog).<br><span style="font-size:10px"><br /><br />Edited by Bluesaga - April 21 2007 at 13:07</span>]]>

At the time, I had never heard them, but I recognized the name. I had read it a couple of times in the Jimi Hendrix biography by John McDermott and Eddie Kramer, and I assumed they were just another late 60's Psychedelic Rock band. <br><br>I thought it was stupid to have Deep Purple in Proto-Prog (I still do).<br><br><br>]]>

I had seen Werner Herzog's "Aguirre, der Zorn Gottes" and got impressed by Popol Vuh's mellotron/moog driven soundtrack, so I rushed to buy what, on specialised press, was mentioned as their most successful album, i.e. "Seligpreisung". I put my CD in the player, ready to set on a vintage electronic trip, and at first I was quite disappointed with what I heard instead... Anyway, nowadays Popol Vuh are among my favourite bands ever.]]>

I guess I must have got confused because there are thousands of people called Hendrix in the Low Countries! We even had a teacher whose name was Hendricks. Moreover, there was at least one singer of torch songs whose first name actually was Jimmy.<br /><br />To make things worse, when I first heard a Jimi Hendrix record (probably a bootleg of some kind), I thought Jimi was a bass player, because his guitar sounded so DEEP. <img src="http://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif" border="0" align="middle" /> ]]>
