Yes the Aria is quite nice, I have this model (I installed a Floyd Rose whammy bridge on it), it sounds more similar to a Les Paul than to a Strat, fitting for more jazzy and clean thick sounds in contrast with my other guitar the Carvin which is more like a mix of a Strat and a metal Ibanez.

It also allows you odd time signatures with quarter notes, 5/4, 7/4, 9/4 and so on. For eighth note time signatures you have to be content with doubling up on the tempo.

Just made an addition to my set-up that really is a dream come true without exaggeration. For a decent price, I picked up a vintage Eminent Solina String Ensemble (same as the ARP, ARP bought it from Eminent mainly to sell on the american market I think). Yeah it's an incredible pedal. Not the easiest thing to use discretely, even though some subtle chorus effects are possible to get the main use is just playing long chords on clav/piano/guitar and let the magic do the work.

I usually prefer Line Audio not only because they are great but because they are hand-made here in Sweden :D I've never tried any Sennheiser microphones, but from what I've heard they are great stuff as well. Might buy one some day, if I feel I need another microphone ^^

Wow... you people have some amazing equipment! I did consider buying a third keyboard this year but since it is impossible for me to use one on live gigs I've upgraded other equipment instead. I am still tempted by the idea to get a vintage monophonic synth in the future though, and alternate between that one (if it's working) and my Moog Little Phatty on stage and in the studio. A Tama Superstar drum kit, custom made for Neil Peart, drummer from the band Rush. The kit was used by Peart for recording on three Rush albums, Signals (Anthem, 1982), Grace Under Pressure (Anthem, 1984), and Power Windows (Anthem, 1985), as well as all live shows played on the concert tours that followed the release of each album. Peart also played the kit in nine music videos for the singles that were released from each album. As well, Peart can be seen playing the kit in the RUSH concert video "Grace Under Pressure Tour 1984" (Anthem, 1985) which was recorded live at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, Canada, on September 21, 1984. The kit was originally given away by Peart to the winner of a contest that was held in Modern Drummer magazine in 1987.

Hey, do you own any pedals? Wink LOL I used to be into a lot of pedals, but these days my pared down approach has given probably my best tone in my 21 years of playing. In my early days, I used a heavy amount of chorus and delay. Now, I just use a hall reverb and delay with the occasional distorted passage or improvisation. I've found that less is really more.

I've been playing the guitar for 21 years and I've had a lot of different equipment. Right now these are mainstays:

That's it! I have a lot more equipment other than this, but I'm certainly not going to list it all. I have found the less I have in my setup, the purer my tone actually is but, then again, I've never been one for effects like flangers, phasers, harmonizers, etc. I might use chorus every now and then.

I'm not a gear snob, but it's a fact that the equiptment that you use has a big influence on how you work, and also on the sound that you make. If Hendrix had played 'Star Spangled Banner' on a kazoo, then I don't think that it would have had the same effect.

Very basic, as I don't have all that much cash, in terms of instruments I have an ibanez s4 guitar, a fender strat, a rodriguez classical guitar, a no longer functioning usb keyboard, a digital piano and an ibanez bass. In terms of pedals I have a boss gt distortion pedal, a boss auto wah, a boss gt10 multi effects boards and a Brian May guitar pedal. As for amps, I have a vox 50 watt amp and a marshall 100 watt solid state amp and with regards to recording equipment I have an akg condenser mic, a seinheiser black fire mic, a firewire audio interface and sonar 8. I do my mastering in adobe soundbooth, previous to that it was adobe audition but I lost that so I'm relegated to soundbooth. Before I upgraded to the audio interface I used to record using a partially damaged foster 260 multitracker hooked up through an array of wires to my computer, would record my tracks into Sonar.  I'm not much a tech and don't have the patience for sound mixing so I could always record better though studio time is just too expensive when you have a multitude of tracks to record.

Very true.  The gear isn't the music, it's just a tool in making the music.  But I definitely agree that knowing how to use your tools is part of what makes your music good.  So that's where I'm missing out, and where I need to improve.  And truth be told, I have gotten more "nuance" in my playing in recent years, using different amp and pedal settings, and not just turned up to 11 all the time (I made up for the monotony of my tone with a punkish energy and attitude).  But I've still got a ways to go.  If I had more time and desire to experiment with my sound on my own, that would certainly help - band rehearsal isn't the best place to tinker endlessly with knobs (that last phrase sounds weird).

Being a good composer/musician is the primary thing. Everything else is secondary, but that is not to say it's unimportant. A good musician needs to be considerate of his tone and how it will blend in with the band. Of course you're ok! Smile I don't know how to read music and I only know the names/whereabouts of about 5 notes on a fret-board...who cares? you should not feel any lesser of a musician than anyone else just because you know jack about gear, so long as you enjoy playing.
