Two great albums.  Going for Waka, a work I listen to quite frequently, often back to back with the Grand Wazoo.

I hate to vote against TOITUS but in this case I will. Its close, and even though the vocal songs are on it, Sleep Dirt is near essential for anyone interested in exploring FZ catalouge just a bit further than the obvious.


Precisely! I've thought The Ocean Is The Ultimate Solution is something of a "forgotten masterwork".

IF the cd version of Sleep Dirt didn't have the vocals I would vote for it right away, being the instrumentals are goregous...especially The Ocean Is The Ultimate Solution (which the Lather verison is no match for). I havne't heard the vinyl version.

Waka.   Sleep Dirt is just a WB f**k you to FZ.  Lather is the appropriate release to have for the Sleep Dirt songs.

I never have heard all of Sleep Dirt that I can recall, which is a shame since I really like what I have heard of it. Two of Zappa's best and most underrated albums. Both often ranked below Hot Rats and The Grand Wazoo, but still highly regarded as some of the finest albums from the Jazz Rock side by Frank Zappa.
