Hillage was perfect for Daevid Allen's Gong and Holdsworth was perfect for Perre Morelens Gong being more fusion based. It's a tie for me.

I almost didn't vote.  I've always loved Hillage's solo work, but Holdsworth is probably one of the top ten most innovative guitarists of all time, and technically as players, there's no contest.

Steve Hillside-Village for me; as others have said, Holdsworth is far better technically but leaves me a bit cold.
 
Incidentally, Daevid Allen is a pretty fine psychedelic axeman in his own right - not as accomplished as either of the other two but not to be overlooked or under rated.

Steve Hillage isn't bad (I really like FISH RISING) but he can't hold a candle to Holdsworth, who is completely sui generis. Apart from Gong, he has triumphed with Soft Machine, Bruford, U.K. and on numerous solo albums.
