I explained it in such a way that it WOULD sound dangerous and stupid. Not very many people feel like having a near death experience on purpose. When Richard Strauss was on his own deathbed, he listened to the ending of D &amp; T, and remarked to his wife, something to the effect "You know, this is exactly how it is, i really have captured it in my music"<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; And of course, the finale to Mahler's 9th, would fit that perfectly.
