By the way, David, there's a precedent for not using the original cover...the image for Cyborg on the KS pages here (mentioned by Tom a few posts up) is not the one that appeared on the earliest Kosmische Musik Label release, which showed this unflattering portrait instead:



The familiar Urs Amann artwork for Cyborg appeared on the Brain Records reissue, which came out later the same year (although the current CD version reverted back to the trippy photo above, sadly...) So the 'flower' cover of Picture Music does sort of break the uniformity, doesn't it..?

Bodylove 1 actually. Love at first listen, and it still holds a very special place in my heart. There's a serene vibe to it, that is somewhat endemic to that first soundtrack methinks. Also I think I prefer Michael Shrieve over Harald Grosskopf on the drumsBig smile

^Yes, that picture of a girl one was the one I was thinking of. The official KS site says it was recorded in autumn 1974 and released in January 1975.

Okay i have the re-issue of "Picture Music" and Klaus states in the liner notes that it was recorded in 1973 making him the first. There's also a picture of the flower shown by David for this poll but also the picture frame with a picture of a young girl in it. The one corner of the framed picture is stuck in dirt in the middle of massive mud-like field. That's right. There was the this huge thing about who came first with the sequencers, and yes this is Schulze's first album with said device, yet Tangerine Dream predate him with Phaedra.

I agree with you, David. I just don't like slightly pale colors, ones that are not rich enough for my eye. Not only is the dude-o'er-the-chessboard cover neat in texture, but it also has rich colors and it gives off some kind of a dynamic vibe.

Well in many ways I prefer the flower work myself, but I think it lacks the same bite and continuity feel of the chessboard one. It's more about what fits with the overall scope of things so to speak.

Currently it's my fave as well. I think it's his most psychedelic album, and I just love the way he makes the sequencers slush and drip. Illustrates how versatile they can be, instead of just dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun.....

Well i prefer the flower one. I love the colors and the contrasting "glass work" in the bottom left. Cheesboard cover for sure. The rainbow thing near the bottom is cool on the flower one, but overall it's average to my eyes.

Simple. I've always thought that the picture we use for Klaus Schulze's Picture Music is the wrong one. There were 3 albums in a row of Schulze's that all had a similar warm vibe to them, a red thread, and the cover arts showed that with the coffee brown and slightly Daliesque motivs painted on. I call it the coffee trilogy, yet on PA this visual bond is not easily spotted, as we use the secondary cover with the flower. 
Personally I think we should change it to the one with the man hovering over the chessboard floor.

What do you guys think?
