Bloody Panda are an avant-garde doom metal ensemble, formed by vocalist and visual artist Yoshiko Ohara in New York City in 2003. Their most current lineup consists of Ohara, Josh Rothenberger (guitars/synth), Blake McDowell (organ/vocals), Gerry Mak (vocals) and Lev Weinstein of Krallice on drums (his fellow Krallice bandmate Nick McMaster would also play bass for Bloody Panda by 2011). The band first put out a two-track EP in 2004, rereleased two years later as a split with fellow experimentalists Kayo Dot. Bloody Panda's first LP, Pheromone, was distributed by Level Plane Records in 2007, with their follow-up Summon coming out on Profound Lore in 2009. A remix album, entitled Summon: Invocation, was released two years later, featuring reinterpretations of songs by like-minded travellers Jarboe, Toby Driver, Nadja, Mick Barr, Edward Ka-Spel and others. Similar artists in the archives include Khanate, Orthodox, Birushanah, the Great Tyrant, Kayo Dot, Shub Niggurath and (woof) Bunkur.

I thought I had seen these guys somewhere before, but it was on the Kayo Dot split.

Forwarded to the progressive metal team.
