Exist this genre of prog?
This genre is: ART AOR (a mix between ART ROCK and AOR).
Example of the bands included (at my warning) in this genre are: GTR, Asia, Alan Parsons Project/ Band, 80's Genesis...
For always yours, Mandrakeroot.

That sounds very much like the Prog-related genre here.

Does this genre of prog exist? Yes, and that's what prog-related is for... bands that are prog enough to be here, but too AOR/pop to be clasified as real prog.

IMO Art rock (already in the 70's e.g. 10cc) is prog. AOR is an 80's prog leftover and thus prog related.

I don't think prog rock exists as a genre anymore. It has become something like a drawer where people throw together any rock singer or band who ever wrote a song longer than 3 minutes.
And that prog-related invention is even more meaningless to me: everything from 1967 on can be considered prog related. So in this site, in the end PROG is going to equal ROCK.

In my opinion art rock and AOR exclude each other - art rock is truly progressive, challenging, different-than-others, while AOR often appears very 'thirteen-in-a-dozen'.
But that's just my opinion, of course.
So, I agree - if art AOR exists at all, it should be categorized as 'prog related'.

What about Rush ... should they be moved to prog related, too? They fit this description like a glove ...

Ehm... good question... but I'd make an exception for Rush as they've been so important for the development of prog in general in the past. They are a major source of inspiration for many a prog metal band up till the day of today.
That said, I'd much prefer a categorization per album in stead of per band anyway, as many bands (most notably all my favourites ) tend to develop themselves in different musical directions in the course of time, but I realize that would be one hell of a job for the maintainers of PA!

To my warning Rush, Uriah Heep, Atomic Rooster, Black widow, High Tide, Raimbow, Black Sabbath are to consider itself Proto Prog Metal Bands. It is, in fact, between the inspirators of band what Dream Theatre, Artension, Pain Of Salvation, Vanden plas, Threshold etc... therefore it has been better to create this sub genre. In this sub genre I would include also Gravy Train, Fuzzy Duck, (70's English) Andromeda and (the thing could create scandal) Van Der Graaf Generator, King Crimson and Gentle Giant. Also the Pink Floyd and the Queen are very dear from the Metallers and, with a lot of distinctions, can to to be included in this sub genre. It does thought of it?
