At the time I found PG III a bit hard to digest and would have voted for Duke over it.  Over time, Peter was being much more adventurous and Genesis was playing it part safe and indulging a bit too much in commecialitis.  Gabriel despite being more adventurous scored a much more interesting hit.  Misunderstanding is an abomination.  Turn It On isn't too bad though.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Peter Gabriel for me.......always liked his early solo stuff and I never cared for Genesis after Wind.

For me, they are both great albums and I love them.  The power of the music and especially lyrics put PG3 slightly over the top.

I prefer the PG rating over the G rating in this case.

I voted for Duke... brilliant album, especially the opening and closing 'medleys'.

PG3 by far for me!! His best IMO. Duke is great, but I don't like the very tinny, sibilant production on the drums.
A GREAT YEAR FOR PROG!!!

For years I loathed and reviled Duke, but recently I have come to appreciate it.  Still, it is not nearly as good as PGIII which is one of the highlights not only of his solo career but of his entire career.  Duke is the album where Genesis turned the corner to pop, although they had not quite finished it yet.  That came next.
The world of sound is certainly capable of infinite variety and, were our sense developed, of infinite extensions. -- George Santayana, "The Sense of Beauty"

Hi,

In the past I would have said PG ... nowadays, I say ... forget it ... they are both over rated and not worthe the hassle. PG has become too infatuated with his fame to do any decent work, and will be playing his hits until his beard is longer than what's his name that played with Genesis!

Genesis' only work worth listening for my ears is the work with PG ... and after that, one album and the rest ... I fall asleep on!

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

Love them both, however PG 3 and 'Security' are the high points of PG's solo works IMHO, so Melt.

First time in this poll series I've voted for the PG album.  Saw the 1980 PGIII tour at a small theater in San Jose (loved the opening band "Random Hold")  For the PG encore I got up within the first three rows.  He was doing this thing where he'd stand on the edge of the stage with his back to the audience, spread his arms wide and then fall backwards onto the crowd...his left hand holding the mic landed on me Ouch

Duke is more enjoyable in a way but suffers from some weak moments but PG3 is probably a masterpeice as suggested with no weak tracks.
