For starters, let me post again my impressions of a modern very interesting art band, since I mentioned them last night, in H.T.'s new thread of discovering new progressive rock values.
Yang is a totally recommended heavy band and intricate music. It's addition in Art Rock was beyond unanimous, it was a dwelling perfect feeling that they define something from the modern prog art. To add, are qualities of eclecticism, variety and stunning effects, that sound most gracious for Art Rock's Modern movement. In short, Yang is a heavy progressive band, mixed from an essence that the artists still hold from their previous Philharmonie (or L'Epee), which is (are) also an interesting band. As much as there's a revigorating perfect art, there's also a deep and special virulence in all their mix: mostly stating the static to breakthrough hard rock, experimental music or rock rustle, from King Crimson. Jazzy jams, or noise math, included, but not so special. I think Yang are excellent through the stun they make, the hard value they interact and their sensibility, afterwards, in a rock album full of power and collosality. It's very related to the hard modern prog Exsimio does (did?), only creating more experimental, crazy varied or artistically high-fi music as well. Here's a review good to read from the one-and-only David M. http://www.progarchives.com/Review.asp?id=125210 |

Hello to all great Art Rockers,
This topic, created upon when the tendency of making an "Appreciation Thread" for every genre was highest, had a really good rhythm, and shared good fans, but suddenly died or became inconsistent. So, without clearly trying to go as complex and cunning as the already great threads dedicated to Symphonic Prog, RIO or Experimental/Post-Rock (at least not yet), let's try to recreate the atmosphere of this Art Rock topic, with as much varied music from it as possible. ![]() ![]() |

The stuff I've heard from Taal is great (despite the notoriously rare 'Skymind'). Some of my faves in AR are Happy the Man and Interpose (two bands you might like Ben), Philharmonie, Tony Banks (most of his albums have some good things, from instrumental prog to ambient), Robert Fripp ('I Advance Masked' excellent and the RFSQ is very good), and Argent (their early organ prog like 'Ring of Hands').

Hmm I forgot about this thread. What do you guys think of The Mars Volta? I like them a lot. And what other modern Art Rock bands do you guys listen to?

Sea Shanties is amaing. Truly the first "metal" album. High Tide is a bit boring and overwrought for me.

Just a quick word from the self-styled Queen of Art Rock herself
![]() A personal recommendation of mine would be the first two High Tide albums, "Sea Shanties" and "High Tide", recently re-released with bonus tracks. The former contains one of my favourite instrumentals of all time, the absolutely stunning "Death Warmed Up", featuring some incredible violin work by Simon House. Check it out ASAP! ![]() |

Taal is so amazingly good and perfect for me. Anyone who likes... I can't explain... so I guess I'll leave it as art-rock, but avestin guessed it right on for me when I said I liked VDGG, King Crimson, Gnidrolog, and circus. So I guess liking those bands and or just having VDGG as a favorite would be a good sign to check em out. Alot of people in this thread probably have already, but if not... you know what to do.

They rock like a bugger don't they? If you haven't already, also worth checking out Morte Macabre, a side project featuring members of Anekdoten and Landberk that cut one album, covering music from Italian horror films. Sounds cheesy. Isn't.

TO PROG JESTER:
EASY is also my fave on the album over the wonderful METAMORPHOSIS which is saying something as most AIR CUT enthusiasts go the latter. Very strong album all round. |

Looking still the same after all these years...
