Ahh the old two-year-wait for a reply Damn...I'm sorry about that. But yes, he got included - although it took a little while (small understatement). Your post actually just remembered me about it and the fact that it hasn't received any reviews yet. That is surely something we'll have to rectify |

Hey fellow music lovers, I noticed that you shared the first Granules album on here a while ago (thanks!),
and I’d like to share with you this new full-length release by Granules. Granules is my open-ended music project with two of my longtime collaborators, based in California. I'm in Norway, so we collaborate across continents and time-zones. Many different influences have made deep impressions on all three of us, including experimental electronic music, modern composition, ambient music, all kinds of progressive music. We would appreciate it a lot if you made the time to listen to our music, and we hope you enjoy! (PS - you can even download it for free on Bandcamp!) It's been a while, eh? I've been busy with some things like *cough*http://hanashukketsu.bandcamp.com/*cough*. Anyway, today I will share with you a new discovery -- some industrial drone from Curitiba, Brazil by an artist who goes by the name Cama Desfeita. I found this album, Falam De Um Desconforto Entre Os Dedos, while searching for industrial music similar to early Maurizio Bianchi, whom I've lately been in the mood to listen to. This, fortunately, was exactly what I was looking for. This album has the fuzzy production value that is to be expected from noisy electronic music releases from the '70s, but the compositions all have a certain density that is similar to music by Nadja, and the first track even has the dark guitar-based drones attributed to that group. But that's where the obvious similarities between the two artists end. "Ergoismo" is far less beautiful and more consistently noisy and unsettling like listening to a rogue radio broadcast of an auditory virus. The remaining three tracks are mostly various forms of ambient and, whether it be the dark ambient air of "Que Isso Fique Entre Nos" or the triumphant and monolithic sounding melodic drone of "Pesadelo Branco", the ambient styles are done quite well on this release. |

Something that I love to do is support music made by a friend. Even more than that, I love when I love my friends' music and want to support it, which is the usual case with Vompatti. He's a very artistically interesting and genuinely nice kind of guy that I sadly don't get to talk to much anymore, but I know that I can look forward to hearing new music by him, like the new release titled The Unknown Arcana of the Cryptical Sky, a nearly 66-minute electronic experiment in industrial ambience and subtle noise. Compared to his previous albums, this one is less "in your face" and more distant. The music on this album makes me think of the hikikomori (ひきこもり), which is a term that refers to the Japanese phenomenon of young adults who have basically decided that they've had enough of the pressure from the world and its people, and choose to live in a state of complete social withdrawal, sometimes not leaving their apartments for months or even years. They're usually funded by their parents who want to keep their son's and daughter's lives afloat somehow. The reason I think of the hikikomori is because I'm generally prone to morbid thoughts, but also because of the atmosphere this album gives off. The whole hour kind of sounds like being locked in a dark, secluded area, safe from whatever is making the unsettling noises that can be heard in the distant "outside" through the walls and gray ambience of my "happy place". It's like watching an imminent doom from a safe distance, being able to see and understand the terror, but also knowing that no harm will be done to me personally, except for maybe some residual psychological damage. I personally live in a semi-secluded way, generally preferring not to leave the safety of my shadowy box, because I know that this world is full of many kinds of people and dangers, all of which I would love to avoid entirely for fear of my life and the anxious sweat that I will probably be drenched in by the day's end. Listening to The Unknown Arcana of the Cryptical Sky is a sweet confirmation that, yes, others probably feel the same way I do, whether that's a good thing or bad. I have no idea if Vomps is an anxious mess like I am, but it is always a plus when an artist can create music to which I can attach my own meaning, and hopefully you will have a similarly meaningful response. Enjoy! Edited by colorofmoney91 - June 14 2012 at 17:50 |

I don't think I've suggested anything from Poland yet, so here goes. Atum is a dark ambient and drone artist from Poland, and though the dark ambient genre typically is limited to boring drones that wander aimlessly with no variation, some artists do stick out quite a bit like Lustmord and Atrium Carceri, and similarly, Atum sticks out. On Agorafobia, Atum's reissued debut album, there are 8 (relatively) short darkly atmospheric drones, but each have their own elements that make them easily distinguishable from each other (though you seriously have to pay attention). For example, "Agorafobia I" features a mostly metallic sound, but there is a subtle underlying tribal percussive element occasionally, and "Agorafobia II" features a constant ringing and clattering of chimes. Something that I personally love in my electronic music of any kind are field recordings, which are used plenty on Agorafobia, and my favorite usage of this technique is on "Kia II", which sounds like a recording of a waterfall crashing into the pool of water below. If you're not too keen on ambient or dark atmospherics, then this might not be for you. Otherwise, this is a wonderful free album |
