Honestly I think this is the second best track on their best album, and lacks nothing. even though people keep complaining about the last part, which is really annoying. Why not try, and *listen* really carefully. It's not just random notes etc. pfft.

And this from a man with your dubious musical tastes....Wink

Celine Dion, bah.... MEN!!!!LOL

Seriously, I don't mind the noodling - I actually prefer "Moonchild" to "Providence", probably because of the 'song' part, for which I have always had a soft spot. Therefore, I chose the second option.

dubious musical taste? LOL.. just you wait until Dee-Lite has you feeling it....

damnit ..it's been almost a year since I last put this album on..  Now I'm going to subject myself to the sonic terrorism known as Moonchild.  Oh well... always good for a laugh.  I'll put it on next....

I like the "noodling" and think there is a lot more than "noodling" going on. if you listen carefully you will find some amazing interplay: there is a real dialogue going on. and, of course, when they finally decide on a certain rhythm (for about the last minute or so, I never measured it), it is the perfect intro for "In the Court of the Crimson King". that alone would be enough for me to never skip the "noodling"

Definitly, there is more to ir than just noodling. It is known that bald women speak of great truths...this is no exception

I totally agree, there is much more then yust simple noodling going on, i think the whole track is very beautiful and its a vital part of the album for me wich i culd not yust skip. And if you people who say it sux actualy lisened to the song insted of yust skip it meby you whuld hear it. I voted > Amazing!

But you also agree that bald women alwyas speak of great truths, right?

I don't have to skip the track because I go into a coma at about the 5 minute mark; luckily, The Court of the Crimson King jolts me out of it...  Wink

I just said this in another thread, but I'll repeat myself because I love the sound of my own voice. :)
I like Moonchild a lot, but I do think it goes on a bit long. However, I feel like I need at least some of that empty space to rest after the intensity of 21st Century Schizoid Man and Epitaph, and before the intensity of the title track.

Moonchild and Providence are two of the most dreadfully boring songs I've ever heard.  I'm surprised no one realizes this, but when you call an improvisation "noodling," you're pretty much saying it sucks.  Which it does.

people use noodling as an endearing term for improv. when they want to say it sucks they associate it with dream theater and call it w*nking Wink

In jazz, calling someones soloing "noodling" is an insult meaning you were just playing random notes.  Maybe it's not an insult in rock because they don't know how to improvise well and noodling is all they can do.

I can't believe! I can't believe the price you pay!

on-topic though, I find it OK, I'm usually busy doing something else while the "noodling" part goes on, but if I'm not, the skip track button isn't too far away.
