Topic: Fave French band besides Magma Posted: September 02 2008 at 21:32 |
Knowing full well all the zeuhl freaks here (and deservedly so) Which of these classic French bands do you enjoy the most?

PULSAR for me just for the strength of THE STRANDS OF FUTURE....as good as any symphonic piece from the ''giants''
;;;;Then the French Crimson....SHYLOCK
Not a fanatic of ANGE as i am not much into theatrical singers

Hey, the first band that came to my mind was Pulsar, and now i see they have the first two votes.
For me is a tough choice between them and Ange, but this latter one will get the first vote!

Three-way tie between Eskaton, Weidorje, and Heldon.

Could have added Weidorje but that would have fueled the Vandernuts

Besides Magma, I only familiar with Pulsar, Ange and Clearlight. Of these, Pulsar would get my vote.
No vote here as I am not familiar with most.

Might have entitled this "a French symphonic prog poll". My favourite French bands/ artists are not in the symph category (most of my French faves are found In Zeuhl/ Avant Prog, Electronic, and Eclectic but some notable ones in other categories too, like Canterbury). That said I have albums by all of these listed, and have loved most of these bands. Maybe Shylock, Arachnoid or Pulsar. Props to Carpe Diem (brought me into French symph). Ange I don't much like, and was not terribly impressed with Tai Phong or Atoll. Arachnoid's album is very good. EDIT: Went with my old fave French symph, Arachnoid.

Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.

i voted for Tai Phong, because of the second album, Windows, wich i find it very strong symph prog from the mid '70's. I know all the rest, and they are pretty good, maybe the second choice is Shylock

There's loads more non-Zeuhl you could have included. I'd go for Ange among these. Love their three first albums. Extremelty atmospheric, dark, theatrical stuff. Although symphonic prog that reminds me of many well known bands from UK and Italy, very french & uniquesounding.
My french faves are really Art Zoyd (well, and Magma).

well, Gong had their origins in France, although they are considered to be an international band, if not they, then it is Clearlight and latejy Hadouk. it is, however, not quite sure whether Hadouk are prog or not; they could probably be considered "ethnic jazz". Catharsis had some interesting moments too

My favourite French band is Saens, which probably has moe to do with the fact that I dont know many French acts, though Saens are very good.
