But Kiss could be in the PA.
Well, not the American and world-wide known band, but a 70's French one that I discovered on a site a few months ago. They are described as progressive. I'm not sure what they sound like, but if they are really progressive, I'm already thinking of the face bycomers would do if they saw a magnificent "KISS" on the PA! |

The difference of course is that Kiss has absolutely no business in prog-related while justifying Boston's presence in prog related is so easy that it is clear that only blind prejudice and ignorance keeps them out.

Hmmm, would be kinda funny in terms of site policy if Music from the Elder were to be considered a prog album though.
After all, if a band release one full prog album they shall be added *chuckles* Hmmm, now - how do we convince Britney Spears or Paris Hilton to issue a prog CD? Or even better, that teenage chick we can blame Billy Ray Cyrus for to make one? |

You gotta admire those guys in a way. It can't be easy being "Kiss" at their age. I mean, it's easy to do Prog as you get older. No one cares that Steve Howe looks like a wrinkled old shoe as long as he can still play. Paul's solo album from last year (?) "Live To Win" is some mighty fine hard rockin' from a 57 year old guy with an artificial hip and a heart condition".
Live fast, love hard, die young indeed.

^^But dude needs to re-think his wardrobe. Seeing him on VH1's Rock Honors in that open chested costume with his now sagging man boobs bouncing around was quite unseemly.

i heard a few tracks out of curiosity: it's pretty mediocre, it sounds like a failed experiment and an attempt to sound serious.

Just to disrupt the riot erupting, did you know that the actual track listing on the album was changed to accommodate the LP. It was originally planned as the soundtrack to a never made film. And with the changes, the "concept" gets lost. If I remember correctly, Wikipedia has the story, or some links to verify.
But one prog album out of many maketh not a prog band. Unless you're Italian. |

It doesn't maketh a prog band, but since M@x says that in order to be the ultimate prog rock resource, if a band has released at least 1 prog album then they belong on PA. That said, I finally purchased The Elder, but I haven't listened to it yet and therefore have no personal opinion as to whether it is progressive or not. And secondly, just because the boss says "make it so" still doesn't mean it is going to happen.

exactly.... since when will people get the silly frickin notion that addition here makes a band ....prog.. whatever the hell that means. We evaluate music ..and albums.... and this site is an archive of prog rock... not 'prog bands. If so.... frickin 86 half the database here post 70's that are not 'known' as a prog bands. That boat sailed years ago... this is not just a repository of your daddies prog bands that he got high to ![]() Edited by micky - December 08 2008 at 17:28 |

But when you suggest such a band (artist) for inclusion lots of specialists will immediately tell you how wrong are you...

because under the current system.. teams can do what they damn well please. Damn the 'rules' to hell ![]() in all seriousness... each team judges as it wishes... and to your point there....there has always been the fear among some that people will react negatively and create waves of discontent. really... look at Metaliica... if AJfA wasn't a PM album.. what is... yet scores of people went apesh*t here. Can't blame the teams for backing off groups like that. The forum ..not the collaborators are the ones who associate being added... to meaning we have ordained them... *sound of thunder* PROG!!!!!!!!!! ![]() I only speak for the teams I am on... we judge music... not groups. If they did prog... we add them... don't care what they did before.. or what they did later. |

I met Gene Simmons one night in 1978 or so while Maitre d' in a popular Montreal restaurant. I recognized him ASAP, he was stunned , we swore at each other in Hungarian and he offered me tickets for the show and I politely declined stating that I was a progger not a child. He laughed and said,"hey, kids need to start somewhere and we are it" . The man is a business tycoon, an expert showman (what a tongue!) and does not consider himself to be a musician but an entertainer. Love him or hate him, he is no fool. A bit like Keith Emerson hahahaha LOL

I think it is a good rule. Otherwise the addition of each album will be a headache for respective teams. ![]() micky, rushfan4, I understand if anyone of us suggests the band, the reason seems obvious to him/her. But it's not teams' obligation to be familiar with all music around. So, despite my sentence about lots of specialists, if one suggests some artist for inclusion, the only way is to have patience and find convincing arguments.

That was my point earlier on about branding - Kiss have been shrewd marketing men & businessmen from day 1 & now make considerably more from merchandising & franchising than from music itself - that Gene Simmons has a hell of a retirement fund going. |
