It's modern music, Dean, it doesn't have to end with Agnus Dei.
There would be several quirkier interpretations, if we insist on this. Surely The Four Horsemen is just as off..

I probably appreciate it more for its eclectics than for its conceptuality.

One of my favourite albums.Not keen on concept albums and arguably this is only a concept album up to side three. Both tracks on side 4 are actually tacked on. All The Seats Were Occupied is absolutely brilliant but exactly how this fits into the concept I'm not sure. The use of sampling and mixing in bits of the album into one complete self contained work is very clever but then Vangelis is a genius.

I've been listening to this alot this past week and while i initially felt the mood didn't seem to match the concept...who cares.That's part of it's charm actually,besides the music is so well done.Yes there are some freaky vocal sections but this one is a keeper.Very impressed !

It is an unusual, engaging concept album that I also really enjoy.  I like it better than "The Wall," but not as much as "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway."  Still, I agree that it is one of the best extended concept albums ever recorded, though it isn't first in my book either.  "Altamont," "Aegian Sea," and "The Four Horsemen" are my favorite songs off of "666."   

Unbearable. A blasphemy and a abomination. I bought it 25 years ago and after one listen I couldn't get it back to the store fast enough to return it. I lied and said it skipped. I felt my hands were rinsed of blood.

People are allowed not to like albums you like.

I voted no. I don't know if it's the greatest concept or one of them. But for sure is one of the most important albums of rock history.

I don't find it vile, I find it to be humorously over-the-top.

 I sometimes like to exaggerate my opinions in a strong, quite absurd, and dramatic manner.  When i do polls, I'd often prefer that people express strong disgust about music than not express any opinion whatsoever. That can be be fun for me, and, generally-speaking, when one recognises that what we like is a matter of taste, what does it matter when people express their distaste even if expressed strongly?  It's just not something that offends me.

If Phil finds it to be "A blasphemy and a abomination" then that's his opinion, it's a rock album based on a religious text - people will react to that if it isn't the reverential "gospel" album they were expecting. Granted the hands rinsed of blood was perhaps OTT and uncalled for. I've heard people describe Greenslade's Pentateuch of Cosmogony as a blasphemy.

I can't speak for his intent, but when I use such strong language even if I really dislike something and say over-the-top and dramatic things such as the hands rinsed of blood comment, then I'm deliberately going for absurdist humour.  I don't take such comments seriously, though sometimes people are being serious, which can make it even more funny.  I do love absurdity and exaggeration.
