That's too bad really. I'm not a fan of everything he does especially the super weird, noisy unlistenable stuff, but when he sits down and writes serious material, he's amazing and quite progressive.

I've always felt him to be perfect for Prog Related.

It's pretty laughable that someone like Bumblefoot can be added, but not Buckethead. They're exactly the same.

and then we have Metallica and NIN...

it's a terrible argument, but I don't get how they're on the site and Buckethead isn't

Is Mr B still under consideration?

This isn't letting me add videos today Cry

This sounds prog related to me at the very least

off of SOMEWHERE OVER THE SLAUGHTERHOUSE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0462cy5Cp1A

off of MONSTERS AND ROBOTS
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_nynfewrNE

Just a couple examples

I also am of the opinion if you have other guitar shredders on here like STEVE VAI, BUMBLEFOOT and MARTY FRIEDMAN there is absolutely no reason to include MR B who is as progressive at times as the aforementioned.

Is it simply a matter of weeding thru his vast output?

Agreed, wholeheartedly.

IMO, as soon as Mr KFC Head is mentioned in this forum, the thread should be immediately locked as an affront to common sense and decency.

Well... I'm not familiar with his music so I can't judge it but... I only note that the majority (almost 60%) voted in favour of his addition (and that's more than twice the number of people against it).

Sorry to hit a sore spot. I'm simply asking if he is under consideration. A polite yes or no would do. If he is under consideration then bringing it up is valid. If not, i agree - lock the thread and all be done with it.

It's just that this thread is 8 years old. It has caused quite a bit of contention between members and collaborators. I don't think it would hurt to have a team look at him again, but I almost know for complete certainty he would be rejected...again.

Geez, he's progressive! There is no doubt about it. If this site doesn't want to include him then make it plain and clear that IT'S NOT GONNA HAPPEN IN BOLD AND CLEAR LANGUAGE so everyone can move on. I'm sorry he has such a large discography to weed through but it seems that there is some resistance to his inclusion for other reasons. Whatever. I'm not here to incite ill will or anything of the sort. But why is this so difficult? Either add him or close the thread and make it clear he will never be here. Guess i'm just wanting some finality. 8 years is certainly enough time to figure this out. Pinch

The problem is that once an artist is rejected once, a unanimous vote is required for them to get a spot on the site. Considering it's a feat on its own to get together an entire team, it just isn't happening.

I read this entire thread. People tried and people were convincing. The fact that he wasn't included on this site shows the behind-the-scenes politics that are unfortunately exhibited in the rest of the world. it sorta shatters my image that this site is any different than any other place in the world, but whatever. It's just an archive site. Buckethead's music is still available to all and i can't even say i like it all. I only have a tiny fraction of what he has to offer but i guess it's the inconsistency of it all that boggles my mind. Who's more prog-related? Kate Bush or Buckethead? I actually like both but whatever! In a way this makes me wanna check out all the Buckethead albums i haven't heard yet (the majority) and rate them on Rate Your Music where there are no arbitrary limitations on inclusion. Sorry PA, i love you all dearly but you have left me a little perplexed with this one. Confused

I'm sorry you feel that way. You're right, the behind the scenes part of PA can be pretty bureaucratic. Perhaps someday Buckethead will be added, but not any day soon. His music, as the collabs see iti, is progressive, but not progressive rock.

In terms of prog related, though, Kate Bush takes the cake. Her direct relation musically to David Gilmour is the main reason she was added. Prog related and proto prog are fishy genres that people really shouldn't bother with; they have way to many criteria for addition and it's way too hard to get a band through.

Buckethead appears to have been tried in both Prog Metal and Crossover:

Of the four collaborators who voted here, only one of them (Warthur) hasn't at some time placed an 'unsure' vote. Buckethead appears to be one of those artists that even most individuals can't make their mind up about, never mind a whole team! LOL I guess opinion on here will always be divided, and with such a massive discography to check out it's little wonder that our collaborators tend to flee to the hills at the very mention of his name!

This issue needs to be discussed in another thread topic, because the arguments, regardless of how old the thread is, merit serious discussion.Yes Buckethead has been rejected but there are other issues that need to be discussed where older rules don't hold as much weight anymore. The latitude by which many many bands are being added these days into the archives needs to be debated v older rejections etc. Believe me, Buckethead or KFC Head's music is far more progressive than some other bands being added lately. This is not the X & Y argument either. I recommend after the holidays and New Year we have either a discussion in the Collab Zone or a debate in the General Music thread to discuss this more in depth. A healthy discussion. Meantime Merry Christmas everyoneHug
