An odd choice Pilot may be, but I think they round well this list reminiscing the Alan Parsons sound, in a way.

Voted Ambrosia because of their first album.

Great band. Was lucky to see the RA tour, with the glass guitar and pyramid. One of those shows you never forget, even with large amounts of Thai-Stick.

Not sure how Utopia falls into the "outskirts" when I can think of very few albums more spot-on proggy than their 1974 debut. Certainly, nothing Zappa or Miles/Herbie or PFM/Banco ever did compares to "The Ikon", "Utopia Theme" or even the Zappa-like "Freak Parade"!

Pilot was a fantastic band. January, Smile, Magic. All top quality songs. Check out the insane Mellotron work in this demo.

No need to apologise!

I know, part of the charm of these guys is that they were balancing on that edge.

They have an ever-changing output making difficult to place it in a particular genre as a whole. I was just thinking that, in their more pop moments, they took a ride on the outskirts.

Todd Rundgren's Utopia — the first three albums, specifically — IS prog!
