The Beatles would've been the obvious choice but I'm going to be adventurous by voting for The Flower Kings instead.

A pretty heavy and abrasive record at times this one. It was the hardest one for me to get into of their 90's stuff. Killer album. |

Nice post, thankyou. I did pick up their latest recently. They are an automatic purchase for me still. |

Yes, apparently a lot of people felt this way. I think I might take the top five from the two polls and give Misplaced Childhood some competition. ![]() Edited by Mellotron Storm - May 05 2025 at 20:13 |

I can't pretent there's not a timeless Wayne Shorter classic among these. Here's the seven albums I either love or like, placed in order of preference:
Wayne Shorter-Speak No Evil Art Zoyd-Le Mariage Du Ciel Et De l'Enfer Herbie Hancock-Maiden Voyage Present-Le Poison Qui Rend Fou The Who-My Generation The Beatles-Rubber Soul Anekdoten-Nucleus The Beatles-Help! |

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

The only album on the poll don't own is your pick! I need to check this one out. I've seen that album cover many times over the years. And I love your second and third picks. |

^ If you're at all into mid-sixties jazz, like Miles Second Great Quartet-stuff (which includes 3/5ths of who's playing here, only with Freddie Hubbard instead of Miles, and Coltrane's drummer instead of Tony Williams), it should really be a no-brainer. Most of Wayne Shorter's albums of the era, surpasses the ones he played on as a sideman in the mentioned quartet imo. And he composed most of the material for both. Speak No Evil is a sonic delight and probably on the gentler side of Post-Bop. Nothing too Avant-Garde or out there like All Seeing Eye in the other poll. Some of my favorite Herbie Hancock playing is on this.
