Why does Prog attrack people with no sense of humour?

Better than when he sampled Can, at least:
Come to think of it, I thought the first time was a fluke, but maybe Kanye is a closet Prog Head... |

join the club. i cant see why it's prog, when it's just the standard very un-prog song with a 3 second prog sample. |

Was this directed at me? I've actually got a pretty good sense of humour usually but if it was a joke from lucas I'll be honest and say I don't really get it. Anyway, I detect a bit of confusion in this thread that stems from two videos having been posted. There was the original Kanye West one and then the Nike one that lucas commented on. Some people have responded to lucas assuming he was talking about the original one with the Schizoid Man sample. However, he was talking about the Nike one that had most of Hocus Pocus in it, not just a few second sample. |

^ Bob... I obviously can't speak on behalf of The T, but I don't think that comment was directed at you. Don't worry about it buddy

Correct. It was directed at Lucas' post. Which was immediately above mine. Why does prog attrack so many paranoids? ![]() If you don't even know what is humour, please go away... ![]() (No, it's not serious. There's a know story around here about that phrase...Don't go away. )

I hate rap
the sample "21st Century Schizoid man" sounded good but it lasted for for 5 seconds. Not enough for me to return to this tripe

I'd heard of this, and as much as I hate Kanye West, and all this rap bullsh*t, this actually made my day. I'm glad to know that rapmen (even producers) know that bands like King Crimson exist, and even take their time to sample their music into one of their songs. Still a lame song.

I wonder how the 21st Century Schizoid Man feels about being in a song like this.

So apparently the sample was used illegally, which has drawn an angry Fripp over their asses, this is going to be fun
![]() Also, he likes it ![]() I like Power & would have approved, had I been approached. Probably, Mr. Kanye acted in good faith & left it to his people to arrange licensing. Sadly, UMG’s Standard Operating Procedure seems to be: act first, regardless of proprieties & permissions, and deal later: on the assumption that the size & quasi-monopolisitic power of the company will be enough to deal / override / ignore any objections. Kanye the artist has my presumption of innocence, given the clear choice between the intention of the artist & UMG the company/s. http://www.dgmlive.com/diaries.htm?entry=17547 Edited by harmonium.ro - June 20 2010 at 09:57 |

Well , according to wikipedia 'The album [In the court of the crimson king] reached #3 on the British charts. The album is certified gold in the United States.[...] The album was remastered and re-released on vinyl and CD several times during the 1980s and 1990s.[...] The song [21st century schizoid man] is featured as the final track in the music video game Guitar Hero 5' So one must be really be a hermit if he never heard this song. |

People expressing surprise that Fripp likes it are revealing themselves as the sort of nostalgic type who is not really progressive but listens to prog for the sound of their own past. Fripp as an actual prog person is highly likely to enjoy all sorts of unusual stuff, particularly the new because you don't make much progress by digging up the past over and over.

The Outkast song with the Focus sample is Wheelz Of Steel.
BTW, Big Boi from Outkast's favourite singer is Kate Bush. Edited by Textbook - June 20 2010 at 17:24 |

I'm not specially surprised if Fripp liked "Power". Professional musicians are often more tolerant and humble than their fans, at least in musical tastes.
