The last great 70's Strawbs album for me and the title track is my favorite Strawbs song of all time. What's your take on Ghosts?

Both Hero & Heroine and its follow-up Ghosts are splendid prog monuments. Everything is perfect= sound, artwork, talent and delivery. The Life Auction and Ghosts are stellar tracks. Even the poppy Lemon Pie takes the cake (pun intended!) Wink
I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth.

Another fantastic album from what has to be the most underappreciated and (shamefully) ignored bands in prog history.  They should get acclaim equivalent to Yes', in my opinion, with whom they have an equal amount of truly great albums.  Grave New World and Hero & Heroine, in particular, I would hold up there with any of the other masterpieces of the genre.

Time always wins.

i agree with you, John Hawkens' use of real harpsichord on the title track "Ghosts" is absolutely haunting!  (pun intended!).  It is my favorite as well.

Hawkens is a much underrated keyboardist, he had one of the best Mellotron sounds out there.

I like it but not as much as Grave New World and Hero and Heroine.

My fave Strawbs LP will always be Hero - some of their earlier stuff is too....too Cousins!  Sometimes his voice just grates and it carries most of the "classic" period albums.  Don't get me wrong, their early folk stuff was a gas and Cousins voice just seemed better suited to it, plus Sandy and Sonja were present to couterbalance....a bit of sweet and salty.  But then came Grave New World and Bursting at the Seams....two "could have been" albums that Cousins voice (and some, at times, cheesy material) turned me off to the band.  Hero breaks from the constant Cousins and focuses on some great guitar work from Lambert.

Ghosts followed and is almost as good, but then came their Nomadness and Deadline and that was that.

Fave Five Strawbs albums;

Hero & Heroine
A Collection of Antiques...
Songs from the Witchwood
Ghosts
Dragonfly

I like to feel the suspense when you're certain you know I am there.....
