Just to throw out a big name for once. Red to Discipline is pretty impressive.
Crushed like a rose in the riverflow.

I like both. Coffins is easier to swallow and catchier, but Hubardo has much more depth and can be more rewarding.

Radiohead - Ok Computer To Kid A

I'd actually say The Bends to Ok Computer

I have actually never heard The Bends.

To say Ok Computer was a shock is an understatement, The Bends was an ok indie pop album with a hit single
Are you referring to High and Dry?

I thought of another one that belongs among the most perplexing of u-turns: Franco Battiato: L'Egitto prima delle Sabie - L'era del cinghiale bianco.
The difference in sound here is hard to convey in words. The shift is so strange that you begin to question whether it indeed is the same artist in charge of both. From the most extreme minimalism with 'delle Sabie's' one-note scale piano experiments to the gorgeously produced art pop of 'cinghiale bianco'. We may have a winner here.
For proof?

“The Guide says there is an art to flying or rather a knack. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.”

Is it a crime to prefer Platinum over Incantations? Tongue I really like the Platinum suite and Incantations bores me so much. Confused

In a good way?

This would have been my choice as well

Yes actually, both albums are excellent. From wind instrument led avant-guard black metal to a King Crimson esq take on 80's goth rock.

How about Coyote to Gamma Knife, also from KD.
Spending more than I should on Prog since 2005

Jethro Tull:
"This Was" to "Stand Up"
then
"Too Old to Rock'n'Roll...... " to "Songs From The Wood"
then
"Stormwatch" to "A"

Horslips:
"The Unfortunate Cup of Tea" to "The Book of Invasions"

Wishbone Ash:

"There's The Rub" to "Locked In"
then
"Locked In" to "New England"

Radiohead:
as stated previously
"OK Computer" to "Kid A"

Not prog or prog-related......but probably the most dramatic change from one album to the next...

Simple Minds:
"Life in a Day" to "Real to Real Cacophony"

and not to forget......

The Skids:
"The Absolute Game" to "Joy"

He sure is. I might give Incantations another try, one of these days: after all, I really liked the short version from Exposed that you recommended me Smile

biggest transition huh? hmmmm, maybe Rush (Hemispheres to Permanent Waves, prog to 80's pop basically, starting off the 1980's itself actually) and Genesis (The Lamb to ATotT), King Crimson (Islands to Larks' Tongues)....that's all i got for now...

Jade Warrior: from Last Autumn's Dream to Floating World.
Also, I echo the already mentioned transition between FGTR to Trespass.

David Bowie: s/t to Space Oddity to The Man Who Sold The World to Hunk Dory.
He looks at this world and wants it all... so he strikes, like Thunderball!

Yep, KC is no stranger to changes in direction. I'd go with you first example as the most dramatic one.
