This album has dark undertones that I like. But not all the time. What's your take on Up?

I talk about this album often. It is my 3rd favorite album from Gabriel. Vastly underrated and a fantastic piece of work that shows that an aging artist still has quality and relevance in him.

It's an album deep and rich in complexities - excellent album that is not a casual listen, so it doesn't get played very often.  When I want to listen to Peter, I've been putting on the New Blood stuff.  His voice has actually improved over the years IMO....and the vocals on Up are outstanding but often blunted by the complex arrangements and electronics.
I like to feel the suspense when you're certain you know I am there.....

Best album he could have put out at that time. I don't listen to it much, but it's special. Maybe my favorite of his.

Being an avid Peter Gabriel fan, I have to say it's not his best work. I has its brilliant moments (like Darkness, Signal to noise, the Barry williams show), but that's about it. The album tends to get overly long (since the average song length is like six minutes) and tedious.

No Way Out is outstanding. One of his best songs to date.

Only bought this maybe two years ago, and while I "respect" it it has yet to really grab me.  Of course because of this I've only listened to it a few times, so it may take me years to really "get" it.

I think it's not a bad album, but there's one track that really stands out for me: "Darkness".

Wow this album came out around the time we got married.  Things like this are why I am glad Gabriel and Hackett left Genesis...

I felt like the dark undertones came out really well on this album. Overall, it feels very personal which what makes it work so well. It's one of my favorite things that he has ever done.

It took a while for this album to really sink in. It's just so dense. Like others have said this is not a casual listen so I also don't play it much. When in the mood however I really enjoy it.

Together with PG 4 (aka "Security"), Up is my favourite Gabriel album. "Signal to Noise" is just so intense.

Hit and miss. Dark is a good way to describe it. PGs solo work never really struck a chord with me before this album.
