I found this forum via a google search ..
I was trying to find the name of a band that was basically a Jethro Tull rip off.

in the same way Starcastle was to Yes and another band I cant remember the name of was to Santana.

The thread I was lead to in my search didn't have the answer but i'd love it if someone knew because I remember liking it to some extent.

It would have been around the time and style of Songs From the Wood if my rapidly failing memory serves

the old thread was from 2008 - hopefully it's ok if I ask again?

No idea what band you are looking for as no-one really sounds like Tull for me. Are you talking about general sound or flute-playing style?

You can try Afforested if you wan't some SFTW inspired stuff.

it was a long time ago - but i'm sure I had an album by a band that sounded exactly like them,  the flute, the style, structure ...

I was looking for this band specifically.  it would have been a 1 hit wonder - only they didn't have any hits.

if no one here knows i'll have to assume I dreamed it

I'm sure that it is not the band that you are referring to because they have a number of albums, but the band Manning has a sound similar to Jethro Tull, and Guy Manning's voice is really similar to Ian Anderson's, at least in my opinion.

that was one of the bands mentioned in the original thread.

I would know the name if I heard it.

I hope i'm not frigging crazy - but I have a very strong feeling i'm right.

I foolishly did an album purge when I was in my 20's (stuff I thought I could live without)  and have since tried to find all of them back again.

unfortunately I guess several were pretty rare

^ We've all done that, we've all been fools: ''I'll never listen to this again''. Re-bought at least a hundred cd's in the last five years.

Good luck with your search.

I remember thinking Horslips' Aliens album sounded a lot like Tull, and it came out right around the same time as SFTW. Especially the song "Sure the Boy Was Green". I think there was a song called "Speed the Plough" on it too. Pretty good album, I'll have to dig it out.

Clap wow.  Some real blasts from the past posters in that thread.  Back when this place had some real character, and the characters to match.

For me two old bands ...Steamhammer and Gravy Train had a good deal of Tull influence ....

I remembered the band!

I'm sure they were called The Hunted.

the album was black .. I think there was foliage on the cover - with an arrow about to be shot out of it - something like that.

so completely unknown that I cant find anything on the internet.

I've found 2 other bands with this name but they aren't the ones.

there's a slight chance I could be wrong but something shook this memory loose and the more I remember the clearer it gets.

correction - I found them !!!

It was The Hunt .. not the hunted ..

and this is the song .

and it's only about 10 seconds that sounds like Tull :)

it's more like Tull meets Led Zep

I was wrong on the cover too .. I wonder what I mixed that up with
(ah - I combined the cover of the first album with the third)

complete mystery solved
