The cut off Mirage. Camel just barnstormed into symphonic perfection with that album, and "Freefall" is just a beautiful piece of that wonderful puzzle.
ELP's first album as a whole was itself excellent, with already tried and true visionaries immediately making some magic happen. I would say that Mirage is head and shoulders above ELP's debut, though if "The Barbarian" or "Take a Pebble" were going up against "Freefall" I'd have to pause to consider.
Plus one does simply vote for f ing Camel over ELP, if they please.

Tough one here, honestly, I think I'll vote ELP........ Freefall is my least fave track off Mirage, but still quite good. Any other song off the album would've whipped Knife Edge hands down.

Freefall on a Knife Edge.
Painful.
I'm fine with both the tunes... can't pick a side...

Knife Edge is a bit of a mess . Dark vocals was never Lake's thing and Palmer is very stilted. Emerson's organ saves the day just about. ELP's debut is a bit overrated . Only Lucky Man ,Take A Pebble and Lucky Man are solid gold ELP classics imo. Tank would have been better without the drum solo ( I like the Works version a lot more) while Three Fates is Emerson being amazing and the rest of the band gauping at his brilliance. Ok fine but ELP became a more cohesive band on the next 4 releases. Camel have always been a nice ordered everything in its place and very easy to listen to prog band. I'll give them a vote this time.

Not 2 of my favorite bands, but I own these albums. The ELP song is probably better.

I cannot believe I'm not voting for ELP here. The debut is in my all top 5 albums of any band anytime! But... Knife Edge is probably my least favorite track from the debut, and Freefall is absolutely magic stuff. So voting for the funkin' Camel over ELP.

Knife edge is pretty good, but Freefall is amazing.

you are evil! good choices btw. Both from favorite albums of mine from each group, each song not the favorites from them but still very enjoyable. who am I kidding though... I almost started to type it was a hard choice ELP all the way!!! A good song from masters beats a good song from journeymen any day of the week.

Freefall, although Latimers vocals are pretty weak imo.

Peter Bardens does the vocals on Freefall.
