I'm a sort of ELP fanboy, but Mirage is a true masterpiece.

Oh man, good pairing! I'd say Freefall edges Knife Edge just barely, mainly because Keith admits to having lifted key melodies from Bach and Janacek. Both great rocking prog songs.

Two of my favorite prog albums and those tracks are both good.....going with Knife Edge just barely because the first ELP is in my top prog albums of all time and holds a sentimental spot for me.

Both were wonderful singers (and Latimer still is). You just have a tin ear.

I do like Mirage but no song in there managed to impact me the same way that Knife Edge does every time I listen to it - a sheer strenght that amazes me! Awesome to know in this poll that this track lifted key melodies from Bach and Janacek! Smile And glad that it was performed in so many stunning shows... Looking forward to listening to them, of course! Wink

Obviously.

I've always regarded the vocals in Camel as the weakest link. How does Latimer rate alongside Lake, Collins, Anderson, Gabriel, Wetton et al?? Honestly? To me Camel sound like a great band who never got round to recruiting a great singer. Sorry, just my opinion.

Freefall is my least fave track off Mirage, but still quite good. Any other song off the album would've whipped Knife Edge hands down.

Freefall is my least favourite off Mirage as well, so Knife Edge it is. Love both albums though.

Neither are actually my favorites from their respective albums, but they are both good songs.  ELP this time, although I think it perfectly legitimate to vote for Camel above ELP.  I mean, if Frodo really can simply walk into Mordor, why can't we simply vote for Camel?  Wink

He was a better singer, but I preferred the music of the first four albums.

I don't really recall either song well enough to vote for one over the other... but I do know a few things. Songs like "Lady Fantasy" or "The White Rider" win for me easily over anything on the ELP debut (and, actually, over almost anything ELP did). And as for Mirage, I do like that album as a whole over the ELP debut, and any other whole album ELP released. About the singers, though, indeed I like Greg Lake much better than Lattimer, or Bardens, or any of the guys that might have gotten the microphone on that line-up... however, the vocals on Camel songs don't really bother me, and I actually find them rather charming and enjoy them very much.
