From the Symphonic Conference we have one of the most hated yet talented, creative, and influential groups in all of prog rock.

From England. The original prog supergroup.

ELP!!!!!!

From the Folksie Conference we have a well regarded group who had a couple of hits and popular albums back in the day.

From England

THE STRAWBS!!!!

Vegas odd makers fearing (rightfully so) the substantial anti-ELP vote have rated this matchup a tossup

Pretty easy pick for me: The Strawbs.
I've never really warmed up to ELP outside of Tarkus. I respect the hell out of them, but most of the music sounds....erm...'forced' to meEmbarrassed *hides in small corner*
I almost always enjoy bands who're influenced by them more. Case in point: Il Balletto di Bronzo.

ELP Easy. Strawbs never got me. Been listening to the kings of pomposity since my grade school music teacher first played "Hoedown" for us.

No contest here for me. As hard as I have tried, The Strawbs just put me to sleep, while ELP are one of my favourite original prog bands.

Wink if you play you play to win, fairly if you can, unfairly if you must LOL  Though unless I have 40 mult ID's and I don't, I don't think it will save ELP next round hahah so I might save them.

I have only one problem with ELP: most of their music is too intense for me. Oftentimes,  I can't seem to be able to process sonic information fast enough to match the ELP's transmission bitrate and the bandwidth Wacko. Stravinsky's music does the same thing to me - too intense, with too high resolution = overload.

(I keep an emergency supply of three-chord, 4/4 music to flush my brain out after running for more than 10 minutes on undiluted Stravinsky)

As for The Strawbs, could we instead compare them to another band in the same category?

Not as fan of Folk although Grave New World is enjoyable. ELP's debut alone makes my choice easy.

I wish my friend.. I wish but even if Camel survives this.. they won't survive the Floyd. WHile in the same bracket,  they are on opposite sides and will be decided underdogs both in their 2nd round matchups.

and who really thinks ELP will beat Gentle Giant... not me.. it won't even be worth packing the Molotov cocktails and nail studded 2x4's for that contest.
