Ok so. I'm sure this isn't the first song, nor the last, to have a strange resemblance to King Crimson's massive epic Starless. But i feel that this song does one hell of a job working off of the structure and build that Starless uses.

Thoughts?

The guitar and heavy bass groove leading into a sax solo, the repeticious build up towards it, the softer opening. Just something that came up on one of my early listens to the brilliant KD album.

I had not thought of that, but I'm looking fwd to relistening to see what you mean. I haven't listened to the album but twice so far.

I can see the resemblance, there's definitely a KC vibe to certain parts of Coffins on Io.

No.

While listening to the brilliant Kayo Dot album, the characteristics i described reminded me of Starless.

Very nice song, and the King Crimson influence shows, but I don't hear "Starless" as you do.

KC did a remarkable "Starless" during their last tour, I'm looking forward to live material from the Frippmeister!

Opeth have a couple songs that are reminiscent initially: "Burden" and "Faith in Others." Didn't make the connection when I heard that Kayo Dot album a couple months ago, but I hear it now. Nothing will ever top Starless, that's for sure Approve

Hi,

I always thought the "best" version of Fripp is always done in Djam Karet, and they have dedicated one whole piece to Bob and also another guitar crazy by the name of Pinhas, if you never have heard Heldon.

I much more enjoy the longer excursions than shorter pieces.

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

I saw the song list for the upcoming Crimso live album, and Starless is on it!

Agreed, Starless is pretty special.

I see the resemblance you speak of though. Not nearly as long as Starless, and obviously a completely different style of music, but the structure has the similarities.

I believe Koffing received writing credits on that song also. Wink

Interesting way of looking at it. A pretty loose interpretation, I'm not sure I'd go so far as you, but interesting. Any excuse to listen to Library Subterranean again!

Hahaha. Love that they have a sense of humour about these things.
