I love Ragas, but I'm not familiar with Gamelan. Any suggestion to get me started?

I love plenty of raga-inspired music but when comparing the "authentic", traditional versions: Gamelan no doubt.

Examples of Gamelan in a rock context, anyone?

First thing that came to mind is Cork Gamelan Ensemble which isn't really rock but art-pop-gamelan perhaps?
the track Christine is kind perfect pop, gamelan and Philip Glass-like minimalism at once.
Yes and there's plenty of western modernclassical-gamelan. Check out Alan Hovhaness, Colin McPhee and Lou Harrison.

Gamelan is cool but ragas are my favorite non-western 'genre' by quite some distance

For gamelan in a Prog context, there's Discus and Guruh Gipsy.
Vote both.
