I'd like to propose Girón as an inclusion to the Progressive Electronic sub-genre!

According to his bio:

"Girón is the most intimate side of Tomás Fenández Girón, a spanish multi-instrumentalist and composer with a long musical career, that has been touring around Europe, South and North America during the last few years as a bass player. Girón reflects the most space, ambient and psychodelic influences of bands from the 70's like Pink Floyd, Tangerine Dream, Cluster, Klaus Schulze, Ash Ra, Tim Blake."

His debut electronic album `Forest' was released in February 2014:

http://giron.bandcamp.com/album/forest

1. Cross the Line (9:13)
2. Inside the Forest (8:48)
3. Deep (17:58)
4. Forest Reprise (6:27)
5. Outside the Forest (14:49)

The CD was limited to a hundred copies, but has now sold out. The download is of course still available.

While this album certainly encompasses influences from the above mentioned artists, there's a darker, melancholic sound drifting through this work, especially due to many sparse moments of lonely despondent piano, but there's sudden moments of real joy and playfulness ("Outside the Forest") as well. Lengthy Berlin School atmospheres, creeping sequencer patterns, white noise distortion, breif tasteful pounding dance patterns, rising and falling whirring synth washes, and lots of weeping bleeps and bloops! It avoids the `cosmic' cliches that are often found on these sort of albums, and there's something a little...off in parts, slightly unnerving throughout this album, and it's about as far from unoriginal, pretty hero worship as you can get! Best of all is very sparse low-key production, gives it a very intimate quality, a real fragility.

The equipment used:
MFOS Ultimate+Expander Modular, Doepfer Dark Time,
Sequential Circuits Sixtrak, Moog Realistic MG-1,
Solina String Ensemble, Farfisa Syntorchestra, Mfb522,
Suzuki Omnichord OM27, Monotribe, Monotron delay,
Ehx small stone/clone, Reel Echo...

Sounds good to me Michael!...This chappie had an honourable mention in the much maligned 'Bandcamp Recomendations' thread back in March of this year: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=69197&PID=4957319#4957319. LOL

Cheers, David!

Yes, I did check the Archives beforehand and it came up to that thread!

I've had the CD for some months now, it was a blind buy from Syn-Phonic that turned out rather well! So apparently I'm one of the lucky hundred that scored a physical copy!

Very good album!

Wow, awesome album! It's a shame the CD was a limited edition.
I really like how he used all those electronic devices: such an interesting display of the Korg Monotron's capabilities Big smile

Sam, do you ever order anything from Syn-Phonic? That's where I got my CD of it a few months ago, and apparently that might be the only place where it's still in stock. If you're interested, send Greg Walker (who runs that site) an email!

You can also subscribe to Greg Walker's mailing list, so that you will get news on new arrivals each month. Greg is very knowledgeable (as well as being a very nice guy in person), and his prices are quite reasonable.

Thanks for the information. I saw that the shipping price is quite high for a single CD, I better make a list Wink

Raff, yes, I've been going through Greg for years now for all my prog orders....no sooner did I order a big chunk of titles from him than his NEXT newsletter showed up last night....and I get to do it all over again!

My wallet is aching, but my prog monkey is fed for a little while longer!
