now that the axe has been buried with Camel. I can honestly say.. I like some of their stuff.
However Gentle Giant is another league ... they get my vote...a perennial 1st division Prog band. No Prog league championships perhaps... but always a threat to occasionally knock off one of the blood blue bands.

However much I love GG (and I used to hate them), Camel just make better music for me.
Not as progressive perhaps, but just nicer to listen to. Camel stirs your emotions like no other band, and they're still around and making great music.
GG never quite made one definitive, perfect album, although Free Hand comes close. They made lots of really good ones and are in my top 10 bands of all time.
Camel made The Snow Goose, and music just doesn't get better than that. Add Mirage, Moonmadness, Nude, Rajaz and A Nod and A Wink and they win by a small bur clear margin.
