Topic: TFK- Paradox Hotel Posted: December 30 2014 at 22:31 |
Just finished listening to this album for the first time, and I quite like it! The first disc felt a bit held back at first, but the energy really came out by the end and even more so on the second disc. What's your take? And on TFK in general really, I'd like to know more as this is the only album I've listened to by them.

I love the FK- but this is one probably at the bottom of my list. They should have taken the best of their material and made only one disc.

Used to like them and bought Stardust We Are and Unfold The Future. Sorry to say I got bored with them and stopped buying TFK albums after Adam and Eve. I guess though it can't be as bad as that?
However a few years ago I downloaded Banks Of Eden and that came as a pleasant surprise. A sleek and punchier album than anything they had done before. I also like Desolation Rose. Interested to know how Paradox Hotel compares to the recent albums..

Paradox Hotel is my favorite FK album, though admittedly, I wouldn't call it typical Flower Kings. It has a slightly harder edge to it than most of their other albums, also, there seems to be more of a focus on the songs themselves rather than the overall CD. There are themes, but they're not the main focus. There are unashamed moments of pop, blues and flat out rock on there, certainly not their proggiest of albums. Even with that being said, it's a huge leap up from Adam and Eve. "End on a High Note", "Minor Giant Steps" and "Life Will Kill You" are favorites while "Touch My Heaven" has one of my favorite Roine Stolt guitar solos in it. Great CD.

Not a bad selection there Robert, though I would have to add "Touch my Heaven" and "Life Will Kill You." Wouldn't mind adding the title track as well. I'd happily replace 'Monsters and Men" with those three, though I think that's one of the less popular opinions.

"Monsters & Men" was my first taste of The Flower Kings and to this day remains my favorite song by them.
