The Pogues vs. They Might Be Giants
The Pogues weaved a quilt of punk and Celtic folk. Using punk politics and punk attitude, they played with traditional Irish instruments. Continuing on the nerd rock aesthetic popularized by the Feelies, They Might Be Giants created alternative art rock with odd, contradicting, comic-book inspired lyrics. |

The Pogues are a Celtic punk band from London, formed in 1982 and fronted by Shane MacGowan.

They Might Be Giants rule. I never bought into the Celtic thing. Though I was a fan of Larry Bird.

I kinda have to be in the mood for Celtic-type stuff. (Which is not to say the Pogues aren't good. I have a comp of theirs and bring it out every once in awhile.) TMBG gets the nod here.
/Flogging Molly also do the Celtic thing well |

The Pogues first three albums are, as Shane MacGowan might say, fockin' loverly.
