Congratulation to the winners of the Detroit and Portland regions. The winner moves on to the Battle of the Bands Final hosted by Viagra AND Rogaine and televised world-wide on M@XTV Thumbs Up

From the Detroit Region we have

YES!!!

From the Portland Region we have

Pink Floyd

Vegas has installed Floyd as a 13.5 vote favorite due to their dominance and enduring popularity. Can Yes pull the minor upset? We shall see!!

I lean strongly to Yes....  but for sh*ts and giggles....

leaving favs out of it... this is the Semi-Finals.. lets talk about greatness and prog perfection

CTTE > DSOTM  (very very slim admittedly... but CTTE is the greatest prog rock album ever done)
TFTO > The Wall  (not close.. as depending on the criteria one can argue TFTO > DSOTM, and DSOTM dwarfs The Wall)
Relayer > Animals  (soundchaser destroys anything on that Floyd album... THEN you have Gates..)
Saucerful of Secrets > The Yes Album
Wish you were here > Drama
Fragile > Meddle

yes it is...  but an enormous amount of love and respect for Floyd

CTTE > Wish You Were Here
Fragile < Ummagumma
The Yes Album < Meddle
Relayer < Dark Side of the Moon

Pink Floyd gets my vote.

Floyd easily, 2 masterpieces and a whole host of strong albums whilst I wouldn't give any Yes album more than 3 stars.

This poll is probably going to be pretty close.  Personally, an easy vote for Floyd.  I do like Yes but the lack of pain, pathos in most of their compositions made them a bit too lightweight for my liking, especially contrasted against a band, specifically a songwriter, that was obsessed with the human condition.  Yes had to play lots of notes to get their point across.  Without doubting the skill involved in that for a minute, I nevertheless don't believe they could have come up with an Us and Them.

This was an easy vote: Fink Lloyd

I'd take pretty much every Floyd album from 67 up to and including 79 over my fave Yes album (The Yes Album).

Neither band could do what the other does. That's a given. Pink Floyd definitely has lyrics over Yes, but I love Yes's sound much more. Even the best PF albums like WYWH and DSOTM bore me at times with their little blues rock here and their little drawn out sound effect there. CTTE and Fragile on the other hand are just flawless. Just say YES!

This is much harder than the other one, so I'll probably sit on it for a while. However, I do lean somewhat towards PF, and exactly for the reasons Rogerthat has expounded.

Oh, by the way, which one's Pink? I vote for Roy Harper.

Yes --easily for me---the classic period---music is way more dynamic and interesting on every level. Need music with energy.Smile

I mean PF is so easy to listen to and commercially one of the most popular groups in the world. Can this really be prog?Big smile

Although I adore Yes I never thought of them as part of my favourite prog bands. Floyd to me is more than a band with albums.

yeah...  I can dig what Roger was getting at... even relate and agree... however this about the music and to me music is is about life. A soundtrack to it.

Not some muso musing on the world.. pfff.. LOL

life to me.. is sort of encapsulated by the music of Yes.  They sort of cover all the bases.. sh*t man.. they did all that in one glorious double album. So layered and dynamic.. one can.. and many have.. listen to it for YEARS and still make discoveries within the music. That is something no band.. indeed.. no album can match.

I hate this choice as I love both equally....I give it to Yes since they were the first concert I ever saw in 74.
Played both CTTE and then TFTO albums plus their so called hits of the day.
