The Jesus and Mary Chain vs. Fugazi

The Jesus and Mary Chain took the noise rock sound of Sonic Youth but made a convincingly British version with the influence of goth rock.

While their compatriots were crafting dense two minute anthems, Fugazi incorporated funk, dub, and post-punk in a way that was comparatively sprawling.

Going with J&MC because I like their music than Fugazi's.

I haven't listened to much J&MC.  I have the Psychocandy record and that's it.  I do know they were responsible for "Head On", a great song that the Pixies later covered.  But when it comes to Fugazi, I just have a strong personal connection to the whole Dischord label thing and can't imagine not voting for them here.

What are the best  Jesus and Mary Chain albums to try other than Psychocandy (which I've still only listened to a handful of times)?

^ They dropped the noise rock style past Psychocandy. They instead followed up with Darklands, which is essentially prototypical of what would become the dour, alt rock side of British indie.

I did vote for them; I find both of those excellent in their own rights. Apologies to 13 Songs and Repeater.

My first memory of the Jesus and Mary Chain was when I was a teenager working in a record store in '85, and the older guys who worked there would play some really cool records that probably helped shape my tastes more than just about anything else did at the time.   There was a Jesus and Mary Chain 12" single they used to play that was overlaid with screechy feedback and distortion so as to render the song almost unlistenable. In a good way, that is.  I never did find out what song that was, cause it's not on Psychocandy, at least not that version.  A b-side maybe?  Anyone?

Some of the singles of the time included "Upside Down", a cover of "Vegetable Man", "You Trip Me Up", "Jesus Suck", and "Just Like Honey". Must be one of them.

OK, that's a start. Should be pretty easy nowadays to research something like this, come to think of it.  I'm still used to having no way of finding out this stuff. :)

I'll go with Jesus and Mary Chain. I don't get the appeal over Fugazi.
