The Stone Roses vs. Dinosaur Jr.

While The Stone Roses were part of the Madchester scene, they were easily the most experimental group in the scene, mixing the songcraft of The Smiths with acid house and psychedelia.


Oft compared to Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr. were responsible for taking the power-pop sound of Big Star and noising it up with timultuous lead guitar work.

I never really got into either, but haven't tried very hard yet.  I can only place a song or two by each. I'll abstain for now.  I am a big fan of Sebadoh, Lou Barlow's band after he left Dinosaur.

The Stone Roses for me. 

Brilliant musicianship with, like you said, wonderul Smiths-like influences. 

That debut album is just killer. Nothing against Second Coming, fantastic too. 
Crushed like a rose in the riverflow.
