Fado is a music genre originated in Portugal (Fado = Fate). It has nothing to do with progressive music, in fact inside Fado there's a bunch of rules that differ from subtype to subtype (Fado has 5 subtypes.) Well, enought with theory, here it is some Fado music that you may enjoy :)

Fado uses an instrument called portuguese guitar and there's this player, called Carlos Paredes. Take a listen because it's something

I like Mariza an I have one album of hers.  Incredible voice. Not really wanted to investigate more...maybe I'll find time.

Good to know some people listen to Fado here! It's not a genre I usually listen but it's very emotive and it always brings me home, since I live near one of the cities with more Fado tradition: Coimbra Smile

I wanted to post more videos that I think are interesting, starting by the queen of Fado, Amália Rodrigues:

And yeah, Paredes was the Hendrix of the portuguese guitar. Tongue It has a beautiful sound, but it's a quite difficult instrument to master:

Nowadays, Fado mixes a lot of influences and genres like that Ana Moura song on the OP but also this one:

Anyway, I hope to hear some portuguese guitar on a Prog album someday Wink

Coimbra has the most emotive Fado.. And I promise you, if I made it, I'll make a couple of things with portuguese guitar. Although it's a very hard instrument to play..
