f**k, Jann Mardenborough's Nissan GT-R GT3 car took off in a VLN race on the Nordschleif and landed in the spectator area, confirmed one dead and several others injured, Mardenborough's uninjured. It was at the Flugplatz, an extremely fast right hander early in the lap where the cars come over a steep rise just before it, anyone thats driven the track in Gran Turismo will know of it as the cars go very light over there.

Two of my favorite tracks for each series. Bullrings for NASCAR and road courses for Indy cars is the T*ts!

I was gunna watch Quali but as always accidentally spoiled the results for myselfLOL
Another bad day for Marussia! But worse...wtf happened with McLaren?? Oh boy, and look at Vettel kicking ass in Ferrari now. Poor Alonso, he really should've tried to grab that open RBR seat!

Exciting weekend, Indy season opener and F1 same day! I always like the St Pete street circuit, hoping for an epic Indy season this year!

Probably, I missed qualifying Cry

EDIT: I didnt really check the timesEmbarrassed that does seem to be quite right.
Shame for Kimi.
Also if Ferrari is good this year, oh man that sucks for Alonso. Talk about poor guy, he's been hampered by some lackluster cars. Was McLaren really that bad?

Honda aren't running at full power yet and it's going to take a while for them to get fully up to speed, but they are improving, they're already over a 1s per lap faster than they were in Australia, which hasn't got them any further up the grid but has put them right on the back of the oposition. Button and Alonso are both quite up beat though and are adament that it wont be long before they can get out of Q1. The chassis itself actually looks pretty good, certainly better than the Force India and Sauber.

I expected this year to be bad for McLaren, but not this far behind.  I just hope this isn't how Button goes out in his F1 career.  Also, a shame about the Nurburgring incident.  It's bad enough when a driver is hurt or killed, and (in my opinion, anyway) it's even worse when a fan is killed.

What a race!
Ferrari was the better car today, and it was like watching the Schumacher days...not a wheel out of place, single miscommunication, or bad moment. And for Kimi to haul it all the way to 4th is really impressive.

Ferrari is back.

Another solid day for Williams and huge congrats to Max Verstappen for scoring his first ever points, at age 17! Teammate Sainz also another points finish, those may be 2 future stars. And weird to see Toro Rosso outpacing Red Bull so far. Great race, and I think it'll be a great year. Epic battling throughout the pack and now maybe at front.

Then we have McLarenLOL Guess it was progress at least

Well I guess it was just unexpected to happen so quickly, and Ferrari of all teams. Really did think it'd be RBR but yeah, the overhaul at Ferrari seems to have paid off. And seriously, what a move for Vettel.

Really this year could be nuts, the competition is still superb throughout the field, like almost all the teams seem to be able to battle for points and a good bit up even, and if we get a battle at top, could be exciting times.

Also glad to see McLaren isn't the worst team in the field, they are currently ahead of Manor GPLOLCry

How can you tell if the chassis is good if they can't get it up to a competitive speed? Once more down force is put on the car, will this nice handling go away?

Thanks for the link anyway. Now the old archaic 14 mile long Nurburing track is only dangerous to spectators. Time to turn this area into a shopping mall and leave it to history.

Hell no! Maybe the Flugplatz should be leveled slightly, it's notorious for cars going light and getting airborne, but loosing the Nordschleif to motorsport would be a horrible travisty.

As to your previous question regarding McLaren, easy, just watch them on track. Honda are currently running the engine heaavily de-tuned so their straight line speed is notably down on everybody else (you could see that in todays race with the way that other cars just drove passed them) but were clearly faster through the corners than the teams they were racing, as shown by their lap times which were very much a match for the Saubers, Force India's, Lotuses and even Red Bull. If they're loosing time on the striaghts, they have got to be making it back up through the corners.

Weather it handles just as well at full power is another matter though which we probably wont find out for at least a few more races, but an incosistent kicking mule with balance issues will still be a kicking mule when driven hard even if it's lacking in power.

Yeah, I hate to be this person but no, the Nordhschleife must stay!
Tragic, but it's known what that track is. This isnt F1 or Indy or Nascar with catch fences and various things to protect fans. If you are there, just like the drivers, you know what can possible happen. Hell, that Isle of Man course is even more dangerous and frankly insane. It's just too precious a gem to be removed.

I assumed (mistake as always) St Pete would be dominated by Power so I went out for a bit, came back with 10 laps left to see JPM leading fending off Power!
Surprised to see Kanaan slot into 3rd breaking up the Penske Party.

Given they started 1-2-3-4 were all in the top 5 and led the whole race sans a few laps I take it this year will pretty much be a Penske team battle for the title.
