    Posted: February 10 2015 at 03:15

Polish vocalist discovered by the very productive keyboardist Clive Nolan (Pendragon, Shadowland), Agnieszka Świta entered the world of neo-prog by going on board the rock opera project Caamora. She has a particular delicate and pleading voice – sometimes with a more than welcome “tremolo” –    blending the passion of operatic singers and the aversion of punk vocalists (think Nina Hagen).

The music on ‘Sleepless’ is without compromises, a melodic progressive rock with fiery guitars, explosive drums and orchestral keyboards. From the sweet “Borderland” to the pounding “Code Of Humans” through the reflective “Disclosure”, the band navigates on various emotional seas, without ever losing sight of the listener’s pleasure and attention.

Agnieszka delivered with ‘Sleepless’ an album where you can sense all the musicians’ inspiration and experience for a majestic work of art. The involvement of her pal of Caamora, Clive Nolan, shows a great mutual respect towards each other, and it was only justice made to her to lend a hand in this very first album, that, as you understood, is highly reommended, whatever your musical tastes.

A fine album by a fine singer, and of course with Clive Nolan involved - thoughts immediately turn to Neo Prog. Sure, there are some Neo Prog passages in this music, but several other styles are represented too. Much of it has an operatic feel similar to the music of the Caamora project that the duo were involved in from 2006 to 2008, and along with a couple of slower ballads there are also definite leanings towards symphonic melodic metal territory on a good few tracks.

The Neo boys may well take this one down into their cave for a closer listen, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see it moved quite swiftly on elsewhere. Yes, there is enough prog contained within these compositions to merit inclusion on the site - but to my ears it is diluted by the more mainstream sounding melodic rock and metal elements to such an extent that Crossover would be the only real option for me.

Very enjoyable album though. This lady has talent for sure!

Not Neo in my poor opinion, I wouldn't even call it Xover, pretty much vocal-oriented and too heavy music for Neo, this is more of a Prog-Related case at best with both Swita and Nolan on the same album.

Little chance of this duo being considered for PR. The album has been out for more than 8 months now, and has only just been brought to our attention. No reviews on RYM as yet, and only a handful anywhere on the Internet, so this collaboration is hardly on its way to achieving the 'legacy quotient' that would be necessary for admins to take any proposals for PR seriously. If not fit for Crossover, then it's gonna be a no-no for them on PA, I fear. Cry

Taking her to the team in an official evaluation, let's allow my colleagues to speak for themselves and see what's happens then.

^ Good move. Approve It would be nice to get a consensus of collaborators' views on what this album constitutes (if anything) in relation to prog rock.  Thumbs Up

The only reason I hadn't reviewed it was because I have pretty much stopped all reviews while I work on my book. I was sent this before release by Metal Mind - really nice album, but it's not Crossover. It could fit in Symph, or Neo, or even PM - but it all depends on the team. It could even be viewed as power metal and not make it onto the site at all, but give that Nightwish are on PA as PM then there should be a place for her as well.

For me it's inexplicable decision.
Agnieszka Swita music is not Prog Metal.
It has only small stylistic elements of this genre.
It's much closer to the Crossover Prog and Neo-Prog.

I dont know your story with the Neo Prog movement my friend,  but personally I have listened to a thousand albums, even rare cassettes related to the genre, have reviewed about 500 here, and with all respect this is not Neo Prog by any means.

I am on the same lines here - this is a type of rock-opera (ish)/symphonic album with prog elements for sure, but prog metal it is not (one might say symphonic metal, to which I would agree to a n extent). Prog-related or Crossover (given the strong commercial character) would suit. Reminds me of Alchemy (which btw I did not find very prog watching it on stage).
