Never heard this dad rock term before......but I will say all prog is cheesy, whether old or new.

I agree with Catcher10 about never hearing the term before reading this thread. When my kids talk about my attitude, preferences, outlook, etc. they use the term "old school".

No, Terrible Music™ is stuff like Maroon5, Train, John Mayer, Coldplay..... (Note: this term is distinct from Sh*tty Music, which includes Nickelback and their imitators.)

Bad, terrible, sh*tty? I don't think that is the case at all. It simply means outdated which is what kids have always said about their parents. It's not meant in a bad way, it's meant in a rolling their eyes kind of way.

I've heard that the guy from Wilco (how's that for being informed!) bitched that his son's friends started calling his music "dad rock" and this set him off. How true this is I'm not really sure, as my son relayed this story to me!

Hmm... The strange thing is that my dad listens to rap music from the 80s and 90s, so I actually listen to older music than he does. Is there a term for "dad rap"?

The late Gil Scott Heron would be a shoo-in for that categorization.

Yes it's called Zappa's first album Freak Out! . It contains the first recorded first rap song ever!
