Almost 20 years later, this still stands as one of the best and most ambitious black/death metal records ever. The labyrinthine song structures switching effortlessly between different textures and riffing styles are a thing of sublimity, as is the intricate instrumental interplay. One of the very few records I hear something new in every time I listen.

More Swedish black metal this time Arckanum's Helvitismyrkr, not quite as ambitious as Sacramentum but very good as it combines more traditional almost thrashy metallic riffing and rhythms with the drawn out abstract melodies and epic sprawling song structures. There's even some well integrated experimental sections like some slow spacey almost psychedelic sections and use of violin on one track.
