yes it is. A common criticism of those, especially the Polydor releases. Though some like the muddy nature of them haha

Well, in that the style's got a well-defined set of musical composition tropes that artists setting out to make music in the genre either set out ot live up to or subvert, but somehow are shared as a starting point for the genre.

Right now "arctic ambient" seems for me to be more a loose aesthetic than a coherent genre. Similar to "vaporwave".
