Snowgoose is really good and special... but Wish you Were Here is perhaps my favourite album of all.

Love both. The Snow Goose is somewhere near the bottom of my top 10 and Wish You Were Here somewhere close to the top.

Snowgoose is my favourite Camel album, but WYWH is an all time top 10 album and easily gets the vote.

The concert version of Snow Goose is a fluent and superior version of a fine studio album.

Wish You Were Here is and has been for a long time for me, utterly spellbinding.

Can't see how it's a copy of Dark Side; they're very different as every PF album is from one another. The same bunch who cranked out Saucer recorded The Wall. There's a world of difference between those and WYWH and TDSTM are two parts of that vast Floydian world.

Recommend fwiw WYWH - I have the SACD which hi res version really is superior to the CD btw. I suppose the box set versions are also stunning, alas I do not know. Recommend the Live Record Snow Goose over the studio one which is a fine album as well.

I don't know if by the live version of Snow Goose you mean the one on A Live Record, but that's the one I have, actually (it was the one available when I was getting Camel albums), and somehow I don't feel like I need to get the original studio one. Am I right about that?

I would never not recommend the studio version of Snow Goose. However there are a couple of things.

Referring to the 2 CD set (which does make it worth getting) there is a bonus track at the end of the Snow Goose which ruins the piece; just when you think it's done something pops up and gives a false ending (or is it two?) to the piece. There is apparently an SACD of Snow Goose (i.e. hi res but rare and v.f. expensive. I think the CD version will do.

The Live Record performance is exemplary. They'd been playing it for a while and the result is what I would call the "go to" version; it's perfect. The God Of Light official bootleg version (27 mins) is a lot more raw. A v. interesting alternative.

There's a classical piece btw - not the Camel suite; an earlier piece but it made an interesting comparison of two musical ideas of the same book (1 with permission, 1 without).

Pink Floyd, Wish You Were Here.

When he rides, my fears subside.
For darkness turns once more to light.
Through the skies, his white horse flies.
To find a land beyond the night.

Hmmm...went with WYWH because of Harper singing Have A Cigar....I'm a Roy Harper fan.
Frankly neither album are my favorites by those 2 bands.
One does nothing yet nothing is left undone.

So, you say Wish you were Here is overrated, and I say it's the best album by Pink Floyd and one of the best albums to have ever been created. Who's to say who is right and who is wrong?

It's an opinion.

Exactly, but when I read overrated, it seems you are saying that you are right at saying Wish you Were Here is a great album and everyone else is wrong at liking it so much, so I mostly avoid using that word. However, this is a discussion that's been had here many times. Not really that important, though, but it always brings this impression to me when reading the overrated opinion, even though I actually know that most of the times people mean it as a personal opinion and not an arrogant attitude.
