Topic: Four albums from 1967! Posted: February 18 2015 at 14:37 |
Which psychedelic proto prog album really blows your mind? 1) Are You Experienced? 2) Sgt. Pepper's 3) Days of Future Past or 4) Piper at the Gates of Dawn?

*Monkees are definitely out but the other four are probably my favourite 60's albums. Gotta go with Syd on this one. Piper>Hendrix>DOFP>Sgt. Pepper

Except for A Day in the Life, I find Sergeant Pepper kind of dull. I understand why other people like it, it just doesn't spin my wheels.

Are You Experienced blows the rest away. I dearly love DoFP and Sgt. Peppers and PatGoD are milestones, but Hendrix offered a guitar revolution. There is nothing comparable in '67.

As a guitarist, I have to vote for Jimi here. Some of the Monkees stuff is actually pretty good, while some of it is . . . as bad as everybody says it is.

^A friend of mine gave me a Monkeys album back in the seventies called Head. Should I listen to it or just let it stay in my closet?

Let it stay in the closet. The Monkees are only fun when you are barreling down the highway singing along with Daydream Believer at the top of your lungs.

^I leave it in the closet. Singing Daydream Believer while barreling down some highway in a car sounds more like a nightmare.
