New Leprous album

Leprous have just wrote on their facebook page, that the new album is "COMPLETELY DONE", it's title is "The Congregation" and it will be released on may 25th in EU/ june 2nd in US. Also they published dates for European tour.

But here's the tour poster. Sadly they wont be coming near me this time, but they were amazing when I saw them with Machine and Haken last October.

I hope they'll return to a style more resembling Bilateral and Tall Poppy Syndrome. I liked Coal, but not nearly as much as the earlier two albums.
They said that writing process of this album was diffrent this time: "Most of the music has been made by Einar, on a computer. Almost all the guitar riffs for example (and Einar has no idea about how to play guitar...)". Sounds interesting

I'm really curious to hear this new effort. So far, I love all of their albums, and I like how each one shows signs of progression from the previous one. I hope they'll continue to surprise me.

I hear it so often and every time i am shocked how can anyone connect these two bands. There are so many diffrences between their approach to music... For example I can't recall any Opeth song featuring odd time sygnetures, while Leprous uses them constantly. Also, Opeth songs never sounded so industrial as these from Tall Poppy Syndrome. The guitar playing differs a lot, Michael often uses many chords to create riffs while Tor rarely thinks about harmonization which is provided by keyboard and second guitar. I guess that the difference in vocalise is obvious. IMO these bands aim to convey diffrent emotions.

The thing i don't like about Coal is the simplicity of it. While songs from Bilateral and even Tall Poppy Syndrome have many motives, many harmonies, some time signature changes, and overall mood changes, songs on Coal have very few motives and rarely change. Even the longer ones, The Valley for example, it starts with two basic motives, than there is one motive building for 4 minutes and it ends with slightly changed version of first two motives, no new melodies, few new harmonies and no time signature/tempo changes. Still these are some nice motives, Einar has a great voice etc, as i've said earlier i like it, but He Will Kill Again was shorter and had at least two times more interesting details. I hope songs from The Congregation will be more developed.
