This is the album that got me into Zappa. A lot of his earlier stuff is fine but some of the vocals did not appeal to me.

 - Zappa fanboy here
The whole album is absolutely perfect Heart

But seriously, even if at first, when I was getting into Zappa, I didn't like the long jam-based sections, now I have grown to love them and understand how each of these is logically created and doesn't became dull or boring for a second of the album. I really do consider it perfect. Even so, some of his albums are much better than this one, but I never considered it overrated. It's more like this one isn't as unappreciated as the rest of them LOL

Some of Frank's best guitar playing comes from this album.

One of my favorite Zappa albums. I do understand, however, why some would say the soloing goes on a bit long on this one; it took me several listens to get past this feeling myself.

High points for me include the already mentioned Peaches en Regalia and Little Umbrellas. I find Willie the Pimp a nice change of pace on an otherwise all instrumental album. But, what makes the album for me is the final track, It Must Be a Camel.

Hi,
I only had this one on tape, so when I found it ('87 ver.) noticed it was a Completely different lp, to this day, even though its good, I really prefer the orig. album. "Little Umbrellas" type Zappa is one of my favorites.
"Grand wazoo" is better but he just had to start here and like he was, a hard working studio leader.
Even if you fall on your face, you're still moving forward.

THE Zappa album that got me into Zappa.

It pushed me as a listener, and got me into the Frank state of mind. Although One Size Fits All is my undisputed favorite, this is right up there. Amazing, timeless, transcendental record for me!

The thing that impressed me is that how much of the keyboard, reed and wind stuff was done by Ian Underwood. Holy Censored, that guy was an instrumental wrecking machine on that record. I think he could have given Ian McDonald a run for his money.
He looks at this world and wants it all... so he strikes, like Thunderball!

I agree, One Size Fits All is my go-to Zappa album also.
