I see that my DT 90s albums poll does not get much discussion, but it got at least some votes, good enough for now, maybe this poll will have a better fate.

6DOIT is my favourite DT album so gets the vote. I also love Black Clouds, that would be my second choice.

Six Degrees here... I didn't heard Train Of Thought yet (for some unknown reason to me) and the very last eponymous one, but Six Degrees are very good... the other are not so bad but nothing special at the same time... Someone here used the word "mediocre" and this is the right word for their latest records

DT is such a 'love to hate' band on this site, to the point where fans might be in hiding for fear of the shame they will face if they were to post. Train of Thought is my personal favorite for this era, but Six Degrees comes a close second. I tend to prefer DT when they are heavier, a betrayal of my metal roots. |

More heavy prog, please!

6 Degrees has better highs, but Train of Thought has fewer flaws; ToT gets my vote

Systematic Chaos is quite underrated, methinks. DT showed a bunch of excellent melodies here.

As a whole, Train of Thought... the only DT album I really like complete (perhaps there's one or two songs that are a bit below the standard of the rest of the album, but I can enjoy those ones too, though), and it's got the wonderful Stream of Consiousness. However, I like even better Disc one of Six Degrees, but unfortunatley the whole 6 Degrees suite CD leaves me rather cold, mostly, so that makes half the album that I love, and half I don't care much about. Octavarium could also be a candidate, because the title song is also among my very favourites from the band (if not my very favourite), and I also like many other songs from the album, but there are more songs that I like less on it than on Train of Thought.

When he rides, my fears subside.
For darkness turns once more to light. Through the skies, his white horse flies. To find a land beyond the night. |

Six Degrees followed by Octavarium. Never liked ToT and positively hated Systematic Chaos and not bought anything since.

If I had to rank them.
1) Octavarium 2) Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence 3) Train of Thought 4) A Dramatic Turn of Events 5) Systematic Chaos 6) Dream Theater 7) Black Clouds & Silver Linings But all of these albums are at least three stars in my opinion. |
